About GEMS

Founded in 1982 by Doreen Wicks, GEMS of Hope is a Canadian not-for-profit international microfinance organization working to support marginalized women in developing countries. GEMS of Hope has no political or religious affiliation. GEMS stands for Global Educational and Microcredit Services.

We support micro-lending programs and promote microenterprise development initiatives in multiple countries, primarily in the Americas and the Caribbean. We provide marginalized women with access to microcredit, health education and services, and skills training to help them overcome socioeconomic dependency. We also help local organizations build capacity to provide more services.
